It took a summer of acting in a children's theater group to convince Matthew Morrison that he wanted to become an actor. He auditioned and attended Orange County High School of the Arts, and followed that with NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, although he didn't enjoy his college foray. Despite a regulation that students couldn't audition in the first two years at NYU, he got himself an agent and dropped out from NYU. His musical debut was in the musical version of Footloose which was then followed by The Rocky Horror Picture Show. His big break, however, was in Hairspray when he landed the part of Link Larkin. It was after this role he made a debut into the television and film world, with small roles in Sex and the City, Hack, Encino Man, and others. His self-proclaimed favorite role he did in television was in 'Once Upon a Mattress', which was a musical for TV that starred Carol Burnett. He was nominated for a Tony for his role in The Light in the Piazza, and eventually left the show in late 2005. He dabbled some more in roles between the television, film, and theater world. After starring in the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific as Lt. Biography
Mark Salling was born and raised in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, growing up with his father, John Salling Jr. and his mother and brother, Condy and Matthew. His passion growing up wasn't acting, but playing music - he started playing the piano at the mere age of 5, and began songwriting at the age of 7. Most of his childhood was spent playing guitar in local bands. Before landing the breakout role of Puck in the FOX musical comedy Glee, he was spending time doing guitar sessions and teaching others how to play.
He made his acting debut in the 1996 horror feature Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering as James Rhodes. This was followed by an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, an action-crime Western where he played the role of Billy. In 2006, he played Eric in another horror feature, The Graveyard. Salling was struggling to make a break into showbiz for 7 years before his current role came along.
